บทคัดย่อ:

บทความชิ้นนี้ ผู้เขียนมีเป้าหมายแสดงให้เห็นประวัติศาสตร์และความหมายของวณิพกในสังคมไทย ภายใต้กระบวนการของความทันสมัยและการสร้างความรู้ความจริงให้กับคนในสังคม ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการจัดแบ่งจำแนกแยกแยะบุคคลออกเป็นระดับชั้นที่แตกต่างกัน เช่น คนปกติ คนไม่ปกติ คนมีอาชีพ คนไร้อาชีพ คนรวยหรือคนจน ซึ่งเป็นกระบวนการทางอำนาจที่ควบคุม ตรวจสอบ จัดการคนในสังคม รวมถึงตัวตนของวณิพกในสังคมไทยด้วย

การศึกษาครั้งนี้ผู้เขียนใช้วิธีการศึกษาภาคสนามทางมานุษยวิทยา ในการสังเกตการณ์ การสัมภาษณ์วณิพกในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร ทั้งวณิพกแบบเดี่ยวและแบบวงดนตรี โดยในบทความชิ้นนี้จะเน้นที่ตัวของวณิพกอมร สมัครการ (วณิพกเดี่ยว) เป็นตัวเดินเรื่องหลัก เพราะมีความสนใจในแง่วิถีชีวิตและการก้าวเข้ามาสู่อาชีพวณิพกรวมทั้งการรวบรวมข้อมูลจากเอกสารต่างๆ เพื่อทำความเข้าใจประวัติศาสตร์ พัฒนาการความเป็นมาภาพลักษณ์และความหมายของวณิพกในสังคมไทยที่มีความแตกต่างหลากหลาย

ภาพวณิพกที่ปรากฏในสังคมไทยจึงสะท้อนให้เห็นการต่อสู้ของกลุ่มคนภายใต้กระบวนการกลายเป็นเมือง ที่พวกเขาพยายามนิยามหรือสร้างความหมายของตัวเองให้แตกต่างจากขอทาน โดยใช้ร่างกายและดนตรีเป็นสื่อแสดงออกถึงตัวตนของพวกเขาที่เรียกว่าวณิพกในพื้นที่ทางสังคมไทย

ABSTRACT:

This article presents some history of blind musicians, or buskers, in Thailand, as well as identifying what it means to be a blind musician, come beggar, in Bangkok. Modern social studies construct patterns to help identify and classify social groups, with classifications that include; normal or abnormal, rich or poor, employed or unemployed – these classifications are then used by social sensors and governments to control elements of society, including these blind street musicians.

Using anthropology methodology and interview techniques, a group of blind Bangkok street musicians were researched in order to help understand their life and the way they use public space. An example is Amorn Samackarn, a sole street musician (who was extensively researched). Additionally, a large variety of available documentation was investigated from which much data was sourced.

These blind street performers are the personification of modern day personal struggle due, in part, to some of the negative effects of urbanization. These musical beggars use their bodies and music to fight for a position in society where they can, at least, survive.
