บทความนี้มุ่งศึกษาเรื่องความสัมพันธ์ของฉันท์อัษฎาพานรซึ่งเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของจารึกวัดพระเชตุพนฯ หมวดสุภาษิต จารึกหมวดสุภาษิตประกอบด้วยเรื่องของการประพฤติปฏิบัติตนที่ดีของบุคคลระดับต่างๆ ทั้ง สตรี บุรุษ ข้าราชการและชนชั้นปกครอง

ฉันท์อัษฎาพานรกับพระแสงอัษฎาพานรมีเนื้อหาว่าด้วยเรื่องคุณสมบัติที่ดีของผู้เป็นกษัตริย์ซึ่งต้องมีความรู้ศาสตร์ต่างๆ ควบคู่ไปกับคุณธรรม ฉันท์อัษฎาพานรมีความสัมพันธ์กับพระแสงอัษฎาพานรซึ่งสร้างขึ้นในสมัยเดียวกันคือในรัชกาลที่ 3 พระแสงอัษฎาพานรซึ่งฝักจำหลักเป็นรูปวานร 8 ตัวน่าจะได้ชื่อตามเรื่องฉันท์อัษฎาพานร พระแสงราชศัสตราเป็นเครื่องราชูปโภคสำหรับประกอบพระราชอิสริยยศ ใช้เป็นสัญลักษณ์แสดงความเป็นพระมหากษัตริย์ ความหมายของเรื่องฉันท์อัษฎาพานรคือผู้ปกครองต้องมีความรู้คู่ธรรมะ เนื้อหาของฉันท์และพระแสงจึงมีความหมายเกี่ยวเนื่องกัน แสดงให้เห็นความเป็นกษัตริย์ที่มีพระราชอำนาจ พระปรีชาสามารถ พระราชจริยวัตรงดงาม และราชธรรมอันแสดงความเป็นกษัตริย์ที่สมบูรณ์

ABSTRACT:

This research article aims to study Chan Asdaphanorn, which is a category of proverbs in Wat Prachetuphon stone inscriptions. The contents consist of morals and good behaviors of men, women, officials and the ruling classes.

Chan Asdaphanorn also contains the good features of the king, which includes the knowledge of integrity. In addition, Chan Asdaphanorn is also associated with the royal sword, Asdaphanorn, which was made during King Rama III’s reign. An eight-monkey figure is carved on the sword. The royal sword is named after the Chan Asdaphanorn and is used in coronations as a symbol of kingship. The meaning behind Chan Asdaphanorn and the sword is that the Monarch must have knowledge of ethics. Chan Asdaphanorn and the Asdaphanorn sword have a related theme: that kingship is endowed with power, wisdom, abilities and manners of a magnificent King.
