บทคัดย่อ:

บันเทิงคดีแนววิทยาศาสตร์เรื่อง Makers ของ Cory Doctorow เสนอสภาพสังคมสหรัฐอเมริการ่วมสมัย หลังวิกฤตเศรษฐกิจครั้งใหญ่ ปริมาณการบริโภคที่จำกัดและตลาดสินค้าเทคโนโลยีที่แปรผันรวดเร็วสั่นคลอนความมั่นคงในชีวิตของแรงงานในภาคอุตสาหกรรม พนักงานบางส่วนซึ่งถูกให้ออกจากงานเพื่อควบคุมค่าใช้จ่ายของบริษัทต้องแสวงหาหนทางใหม่ในการดำเนินชีวิต ทางเลือกหนึ่งคือการประกอบวิชาชีพอิสระเพื่อหารายได้ Makers เป็นบันเทิงคดีแนววิทยาศาสตร์ยุคใหม่ที่ไม่ได้นำเสนอว่าเทคโนโลยีจะเป็นคุณหรือโทษต่อมนุษย์เพียงด้านเดียว แต่เทคโนโลยีเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการพัฒนาในสังคมที่หลีกเลี่ยงมิได้และมนุษย์ยังคงมีศักยภาพในการใช้เทคโนโลยีและเครื่องมือเพื่อยกระดับคุณภาพชีวิตของตน 

ABSTRACT:

In Cory Doctorow’s "Makers", the United States of America has to face the hardship of an economic crisis. Limited consumption and fluctuations of the technological product market cause difficulties in the lives of the industrial population. Many troubled companies have had to lay off a number of employees to control their expenses. These workers have to find a new way to sustain their lifestyle. One solution to this situation is for more people to take up or create an independent profession. "Makers" does not present technology in a merely positive or negative light. In it, technology is a part of inevitable social development that humans could potentially use to elevate their quality of life.
