บทคัดย่อ:

แนวคิดการจำลองแบบพระธาตุพนมก่อเกิดขึ้นโดยกรมพระราชวังบวรมหาศักดิพลเสพ ด้วยแรงศรัทธาในพุทธศาสนาและพระธาตุพนมเป็นสำคัญ แต่พระธาตุพนมจำลองสร้างขึ้นครั้งแรกโดยพระบาทสมเด็จพระปิ่นเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวตามพระราชนิยมส่วนพระองค์ และการปกป้องผืนแผ่นดินหัวเมืองลาวล้านช้างในปกครองสยามให้รอดพ้นจากจักรวรรดินิยมตะวันตก ต่อมาสมเด็จฯ กรมพระยาดำรงราชานุภาพน่าจะนำเอาแนวคิดดังกล่าวนี้มาปรับประยุกต์ใช้ในบริบทใหม่ เนื่องด้วยฟากฝั่งซ้ายแม่น้ำโขงตกอยู่ภายใต้อำนาจของฝรั่งเศสแล้ว ทำให้พื้นที่ฟากฝั่งขวาแม่น้ำโขงตอนกลางหรืออีสานของสยามเสี่ยงต่อการถูกยึดครอง จึงมีการสร้างพระธาตุพนมจำลองรุ่นแรกขึ้นในพื้นที่แห่งนี้ เพื่อรวมผู้คนในแถบลุ่มแม่น้ำโขงให้ฝักใฝ่ในสยาม โดยใช้แรงศรัทธาในความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของพระธาตุพนมเป็นแรงขับเคลื่อนและทำให้มหาอำนาจชาติตะวันตกตระหนักถึงอาณาเขตของสยามแห่งนี้ ส่งผลให้พระธาตุพนมจำลองเป็นที่นิยมสร้างแพร่หลายตั้งแต่นั้นเป็นต้นมา

ABSTRACT:

The idea to create Phra That Phanom replicas was first formed by Viceroy Sakdipholseph largely out of his faith in Buddhism. However, the first Phra That Phanom replica was built by King Pinklao based on his interest in the Lao Lan Chang district of Siam and his protection of it from Western Imperialism. Later, Prince Damrong Rajanubhab implemented the idea because he saw that the left side of the Mekong River was under French colonial rule, while the right side of Mekong River, or the Isan region of Siam, was at risk of being colonized. So the first group of Phra That Phanom replicas were built in the region. The purpose of these replicas was to unite the people in the Mekong area of Siam using their faith in Phra That Phanom, and to send signals to the main colonial powers that this territory belonged to Siam. Phra That Phanom replicas have since been widely built.
